On behalf of the WLIC 2026 National Committee of the Republic of Korea, we cordially invite you to the IFLA WLIC 2026, which will be held in Busan from 10 to 13 August 2026.

The theme of the Congress, “Libraries Powering Transformation,” reflects the vision of the IFLA Strategy 2024–2029: “Sustainable futures for all through knowledge and information.”

AI and digital transformation are fundamentally reshaping the ways in which we access knowledge and interact with information, and the role of libraries as infrastructures of trust, inclusion, and accessibility is becoming increasingly essential.

In this era of rapid technological change, international cooperation is more important than ever as we respond to shared challenges.

Libraries must strengthen citizens’ digital literacy, narrow information gaps, and ensure universal access to services so that vulnerable groups are not left behind. These responsibilities align closely with IFLA’s vision for an inclusive and sustainable future.

The Korean library community is deeply honored to welcome the global library sector back to Korea for the first time in twenty years, following the WLIC 2006 in Seoul.

The 2026 Busan Congress will strengthen international networks among library professionals and contribute to the development of libraries across the Asia-Pacific region.

We hope this gathering will offer valuable opportunities for exchange, collaboration, and collective exploration of new roles for libraries in building a sustainable knowledge society.
