Sohail Inayatullah 

Sohail Inayatullah, a political scientist and futurist, is the UNESCO Chair in Futures Studies at the Sejahtera Centre for Sustainability and Humanity, Malaysia. He is also Professor at Tamkang University, Tamsui. He teaches with Metafuture School where his courses include “Become a Futurist and Personal Futures”. He is listed in the top two percent of the world’s scientists as measured by the highest impact of citations. His books include Aeon and Mewtronix – A Futures Tale (2024) (available in 10 languages) and Asia 2038: Ten Disruptions that Change Everything (2018) (in English, Mandarin and Korean).

In this interactive presentation, Inayatullah will explore the alternative futures of libraries. How will libraries change given the rise of AI, military spending, and changes in the world economy? What are some “used futures” that continue to hamper transformation and what are emergent and preferred narratives of what the library can be?
