A window to the future of knowledge, Jurye Open Library opened on October 4, 2024, as the third public library in Sasang-gu, Busan. The district acquired and transformed a former apartment development site—once a source of community conflict—into a library the residents had long dreamed of.
The library, with one basement level and four above ground (B1–4F), features an open and airy layout centered around a central stair plaza. A vertical void extends from the first to the third floor, with all library spaces connected by ramps.
The basement level provides a study and reading space with large windows overlooking a bamboo grove, while the first and second floors offer family-friendly spaces with beanbags, teepee tents, and the robot “Romi.” The third floor is a leisure-focused space for music and relaxation, hosting open-theater performances, book concerts, and youth programs alongside collaborative programs with partner institutions and family book curation activities—all contributing to its role as a vibrant community cultural space.
Jurye Open Library will continue to grow as a library that shapes the future together with its community.
