QIMAM: Qatar–IFLA MENA Award for Aspiring Librarians

The QIMAM award will enable two emerging librarians from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to attend the IFLA World Library and Information Congress (WLIC), scheduled from 10 to 13 August 2026.

The award is offered by Qatar National Library in its role as the IFLA MENA Regional Office and represents a valuable opportunity for professional development, exposure to international best practices, and global networking.

What does the grant cover?

The airfare and accommodation will be covered by Qatar National Library in accordance with the Award provisions.

Eligibility and expectations

Applicant must:

  • Be an early-career professional in library or information science with no more than four years of experience.
  • Be between the ages of 20 and 35.
  • Hold a degree or demonstrate proven knowledge in the library and information science or a related field.
  • Have not attended any previous IFLA-related conferences.
  • Acknowledge that obtaining an entry visa is the responsibility of the selected candidates, while airfare and accommodation will be covered by Qatar National Library in accordance with the Award provisions.
  • Submit a 500-word personal statement describing their motivation, expectations from the grant, and how they plan to apply what they learn to benefit libraries in their country or region.
  • Provide evidence of leadership potential and community impact through innovative library-related initiatives (e.g., awards, media coverage, testimonials, or project documentation).
  • Include a letter of support from their employer endorsing their participation.
  • Submit at least one recommendation letter from a library professional familiar with their work.
  • Be available for an online interview as part of the final evaluation process.

During the Conference (10-13 August 2026)

  • Deliver a short presentation at the Arabic Caucus session, organized by Qatar National Library as the IFLA MENA Regional Office.
  • Demonstrate independence, time management skills, and active engagement in sessions and networking opportunities at WLIC.

After the Conference

  • Submit a post-conference report summarizing key learnings, professional benefits, and how they plan to apply them locally.
  • Contribute a short article or reflection to be featured on IFLA and QNL platforms.
  • Participate in a follow-up session or regional event to share knowledge and inspire other librarians.
